There comes a time when good manners dictate that you hold your tongue.
That time is way past for Meryl Streep, but has come for Sen. John McCain and Rep. John Lewis.
The former naval hero and civil rights icon, respectively, and Trump deniers, have been viciously and dangerously critical of the man elected president by The People. What right they have to do that remains to be seen.
Looking to the future, and leaving their laurels behind, it's time we asked McCain and Lewis, "What have you done for us lately?"
A member of Congress for more than 30 years, McCain has yet to secure Arizona's borders. But he made time to defend Huma Abedin on the floor of the Senate, and went out of his way to bring the word "dossier" back into common parlance.
A respected activist of the Civil Rights movement, the only thing John Lewis brings to the table these days is his anger. His behavior, at this time in our history, begs the question, "What did he learn while marching at the side of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," speaking irresponsibly, words designed to incite crazies, when Dr. King's life purpose was nonviolent resistance?
Would Dr. King be proud to hear Lewis call Trump's democratic election "illegitimate?" Or be pleased that Lewis refuses to attend the Inauguration?
Puzzled, Dr. King might ask, "When the country became racially divided under President Obama, John, what did you do to heal the racial division, the one I fought so hard to erase?"
It's the same question Dr. King could ask Attorneys General Holder and Lynch.
America has been a fortunate nation. Whenever the need arose for men of extraordinary character, they appeared: Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Reagan.
Men such as these made it possible for the country to survive during times when men of lesser ability were among its leaders, and to put our country back on course when mediocre leaders took it off course.
Over the years, nothing changes with winners and losers. Winners win and losers whine. Liberals today are whining because they know they have been backing a president and a candidate of mediocre ability, and that Trump is destined to be one of our greats.
They refuse to admit it, and so they focus on destroying his presidency.
The anger does not come from Liberals and Democrats alone. It comes from the Republican Establishment, from types like Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell.
The "Scratch the Surface of an Establishment Republican, and He'll Turn on Trump in a Minute" types, like the Bush family, who sit in the wings and let it all happen.
Many have much to lose when the swamp is drained, so they're fighting Trump hard.
Hillary's crying because her money has already stopped. She pulled the plug on the Clinton Global Initiative because the influx of foreign donations stopped "influxing" after she lost the election.
California Sen. Barbara Boxer, in a "Close the barn door after the horse is gone" move, introduced legislation to abolish the Electoral College.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) lectured Sen. Jeff Sessions on the duties of the attorney general during his confirmation hearing, admonishing that he is "not to be responsive to the president," nor should he "advocate for his own beliefs," but must "enforce federal law equally for all Americans."
She was talking about the Department of Justice...Amazingly, no one laughed.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) auditioned to be the new Barack Obama, slicing and dicing his Senate colleague. He accused Sessions of being unable and unwilling to bend the "arc of the moral universe...toward justice," adding that he was unable to support Sessions' confirmation.
And Little Marco (R-Fla.), still angry from losing the nomination for president, bullied Gen. Mattis during his confirmation hearing, attempting to force the general into calling Russian Pres. Vladamir Putin a "war criminal."
The general didn't cave.
Curiously, at no time did anyone ask former Newark Mayor Booker where the $100 million gift from Mark Zuckerberg for Newark schools rehab went, and the matching funds of $100 million.
And no one admonished Feinstein on the inpropriety of her husband's real estate company making a $1.1 billion profit selling off surplus government post office buildings and land.
Yes, many have much to lose with Donald Trump as president, and they will stop at nothing to destroy him, a frightening thought worthy of an FBI investigation.
But one thing this group of morons didn't factor in, was loyalty, total and complete loyalty, something the other politicians like Hillary and McCain, never had.
After the BuzzFeed news debacle, which was designed to embarrass Trump with bogus news, Trump's attorney, Michael Cohen, the man who didn't go to Prague, stated in a FOX interview:
"What people don't realize is that President-Elect Trump has a loyal inner circle around him, who will do anything to protect him."
And, looking directly into the camera, he repeated, "We will do anything we can to protect him."
We feel the same.
