To us, he seemed fine, right out of the box.
He never even had to ask which fork to use.
But Democrats are operating like Goldilocks. They think the president's speeches, in Poland and on Inauguration Day, were "Too dark." His Tweets are "Too many." But, unlike Goldie, they think nothing he does is ever "Just right."
To their dismay, Trump is presenting as very "presidential." And they're finding that hard to swallow.
He represented the United States with dignity on two international trips, restoring the country's standing around the world.
Six months into his term of office, the stock market is booming, American energy sources are unleashed, the border is more secure, NATO allies are sending in their dues, and from all indications, he has Made America Great Again.
Any Tom, Barack and Hillary can campaign, but once they win, can they do the job?
Can they manage to make it through a 9/11 ceremony without keeling over? Conduct a press conference after an Islamic terrorist mass murder in Munich without yukking it up about missing your college-bound daughter?
Trump can. He's hobbed and nobbed with the Rich, the Famous and with Everyman.
He can have a ceremonial coffee with the king of Saudi Arabia, then talk shop with a bunch of guys from a construction site, whom he has invited to tour the Oval Office.
It is what he brings to the table. It is why he has slipped with ease into performing the tasks of president. He can literally walk with kings and not lose the common touch.
But you won't hear any mention of the president's accomplishments, much less praise from the Leftist media, Democrats or Establishment Republicans.
It's what bad parents, abusive husbands and bullies do best: Destroy a kid, abuse a woman, bring down an enemy. Just ignore their accomplishments, bully, ridicule and demean, with the clear intent to hurt.
It's what angry, cruel people do best.
Trump has a message that resonates, and it's sticking in every Democrat's craw. They can't, or won't figure out why Hillary didn't win, or why they lost five of the last special elections, but they suspect it's "The Slogan."
Hillary ran through a bunch of them during her campaign, switching horses in mid-stream, when nothing stuck, "I'm With Her," "Stronger Together," "In to Win." Then, when she lost, it was "Resist, Insist, Persist, Enlist."
She's tried them all. Her Party has tried them all, and in between experimented with using nasty language, figuring they would connect with the cool kids.
"F**k Trump" was a favorite with Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) when speaking to kids at New York University, and also with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who stood smiling during the California Democratic annual convention, while the outgoing Democratic Party chairman led the audience in a chant, "F**k Donald Trump."
Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez periodically spits out four-letter words. And Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) referred to Trump as a "scumbag," "a disgusting, poor excuse for a man," and called for his impeachment a couple of minutes after he took office.
None of this worked for them so back they went to the drawing board, thinking, "If we can just come up with the right words, we'll be back in the game! It's all about words...right?"
And sure enough, they found exactly the "Just Right" words: "A Better Deal: Better Skills, Better Jobs, Better Wages."
It's a slogan Papa John pizza lovers everywhere love. And it's sure to get the Dems elected in the 2018's. Because it's only about the words.
Hold the line, America.
