We should thank the good Lord Robert De Niro has scriptwriters, otherwise the man wouldn't be able to put a full sentence together. And he proved that this week at the Tony Awards where the "Punchy" actor turned the air blue.
Parents have been telling their kids for years, "If you have to resort to vulgar language to make your point, you're just showing everyone how ignorant you are." But no one in the Tony Awards audience thought De Niro was ignorant. They applauded when he rebelliously shouted, "F**k Trump!" I guess that means they agreed.
That little Devil!
Friends should never let friends drive drunk. And you'd think friends wouldn't let friends make fools of themselves like De Niro did. That night. And over, and over. And like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did last week.
No sooner had Air Force One lifted off from the tarmac after the G7 Summit in La Malbaie, Quebec, then Trudeau felt it was safe for him to strut on the stage.
To show off. Threaten to "move forward with retaliatory measures on July 1" in NAFTA negotiations. To brag that Canadians "will not be pushed around." By Trump. This was after a cordial, private meeting with President Trump. Where he didn't say any of these things.
That little Devil!
Friends don't stab friends in the back. The way PM Trudeau did. At least not without checking out that there are 25 TVs on Air Force One.
You know the rest. Trump wasn't pleased.
In the end, De Niro and Trudeau and other Trump Haters are wrong. The G7 Summit Meeting was not about "Friendship." Or American and Canadian soldiers standing shoulder-to-shoulder.
Allies have each other's backs. That's true. And America is always the first to sign up and hang in.
It was about tariffs. That's business. And business is business. It's not personal.
The European Union didn't like it when Trump told them the U.S. wasn't going to be the world's Piggy Bank anymore. They like things the way they are. Obama never changed it. In fact, Obama never saw it.
They liked that about him.
But Trump isn't Obama. He realizes we have a $21.15 trillion dollar national debt, and a huge trade imbalance.
And that's not good business.
Suppose you had a best bud who made you pay for everything. Never reached for his wallet. You go to dinner. You pick up the tab. Go out for drinks. You pay.
And all your "friend" says is, "Dude! You make more than I do. You can afford it. In fact, you should pay! You always have! Why are you stopping?"
"Because I'm $21 trillion dollars in debt," you answer.
Trimming trade imbalance losses simply makes good sense when you are looking out for your country. And cutting out "War Games" on the Korean Peninsula does, too. Trump explained why after the meeting in Singapore with Kim Jong un.
It costs too much.
And with Nuclear Disarmament Negotiations going on with North Korea, it is inappropriate.
But the media twisted his words, happily managing to characterize the president's decision as a U.S. loss, and a North Korean gain.
Watching your country's pocketbook would seem to be something any ally of the U.S. would want to help our president accomplish. Wouldn't it? Maybe not.
Bill Maher told his TV audience he'd rather see the U.S. "enter a recession," so we can "get rid of Trump."
De Niro thinks we needed him to go to Canada to apologize to Justin Trudeau for our president.
We didn't.
And Jim Carrey has been parading out his inner crazy artist to insult the president and the rest of America.
The Trump-Hating-Actor creates rude, crude and disturbing paintings to express his hatred, the latest showing Republican Congressmen McConnell, Nunes and Ryan, eating feces sandwiches, while the president sits on a toilet and tweets.
But what the heck do these guys care? They don't have a dog in the race. Between them they're worth $450 million, and have no idea about the real world.
And the president? He lets it all roll off his back. He just keeping working. And none of The Hollywood Haters, Liberals and the media realize what he's really doing.
First he circumvented the media by tweeting, to get his word out when they wouldn't. Then he circumvented the media by "Doing then Reporting," like when Secretary of State Mike Pompeo travelled to North Korea and the press didn't know about it until after it happened.
Rumor has it that more has been settled with Kim Jong un than has been reported. All negotiated long ago.
But who knows? Certainly not the Trump Haters and the media. They are too busy hating Trump to notice what's happening under their very noses.
Hold the line, America.
