They're In For the Long Haul

"Have faith," we are told, but it isn't easy to believe in things you cannot see. St. Thomas the Apostle earned the name "Doubting Thomas" for that very reason.

Last Friday, President Trump signed a 2,232 page, $1.3 trillion dollar Omnibus Spending Bill. It was written behind closed doors by Congressional leaders to avoid a government shutdown. Another shutdown. Congress was given just 48 hours to read it and get the thing passed.

Trump supporters were outraged. There was inadequate funding for The Wall, and constraints were placed on its construction. Trumpers believed the president would veto the bill. They expected him to. And when he didn't, they felt deceived.

Some threatened never to vote again. Some never to vote for him again. In short, their faith in him had been eroded.

In their eyes, the bill was an obvious slap in the face to the president, and voters, from Establishment Republicans. Nonetheless, the bill passed both Houses, despite grave concern from members of Congress.

"This may be the worst bill I've ever seen," a frustrated Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said. "Nov. 8, 2016. I doubt that the voters were saying 'Put Republicans in power so that they can pass a bill that continues to fund sanctuary cities, continues to fund Planned Parenthood.' Really? That's what the election was about?"

But it was then that Trump supporters stopped and reflected. "Why was it we voted for him," they asked themselves. And they knew. He was an outsider. A businessman. No one owned him. He was politically incorrect and unpredictable. But most importantly, they believed in him, something Hillary Clinton would never have.

"Hmm," they thought. "He has never let us down, so why would he now?"

He has kept his promises. Unlike Barack Obama. He has made our country respected again. Unlike Barack Obama.

His expertise and his push for his administration's tax bill brought jobs and companies back to the country. When he told NATO countries to pay their fair share, they did. When he laid down the law to our trade partners, and said. "If you want to do business, the U.S. has to get a fair shake," they listened.

Yet the Liberal media and politicians continued to ignore his accomplishments, berating him in ways veteran politicians and good journalists say they have never witnessed before.

His response? To work, every day, long days, zigging while they zag, beating them, slowly and surely, at their own sick game, accomplishing what other presidents have not. Now, seemingly bringing North Korea's "Rocket Man" to the bargaining table. Unlike Barack Obama. Or George Bush. Or Bill Clinton.

Supporters know he's losing money by being president. Unlike Barack Obama. They admire that he has decided not to take a salary, but instead donates it, in 2017 the $400,000 going to the Departments of Transportation, Education, Health, and the National Parks Department. And they watched with pride when he represented the United States in foreign countries, and was received with respect from heads of state, something Barack Obama's visits never garnered.

Yes, Trump supporters are back on track. "Hell, yes! We're in for the long haul!" they say, because they realized he always has a plan. This time, it is rumored, he will use part of the $700 billion slated for the military for The Wall, for "national defense." And, it is rumored, he will have the Army Corps of Engineers do the work. Saving a few bucks there.

This is precisely what drives Liberals nuts. Politicians of Hillary Clinton's ilk can only dream about having a loyal base like Donald Trump has. And, like Hillary, none of them know what makes Donald Trump tick.

This week CNN's Randi Kaye interviewed some of Trump's Republican, female supporters, for their response to Anderson Cooper's disgusting interview with porn star Stormy Daniels. Kaye went into the interview thinking these women would abandon Trump. To her dismay, they did not. Instead they said they feel the president has been unfairly treated.

"If the president walked on water," one commented, "the press would say he doesn't know how to swim. He's become a little bit, I guess, over-criticized."

          Yeah. A little bit.

          Hold the line, America.
