She was a vision on the tarmac at 2 a.m., in Dior and stilettos, welcoming American hostages back from North Korea.
Four days later, she was in the hospital for kidney surgery.
She is our First Lady.
But all James Gunn and Stephen King could see was a lady whose marriage they say was a fiction.
"No one believes Trump and Melania have a real marriage anymore," Gunn tweeted. "So can they please just let it go and stop pretending."
"Not to be snarky," King said, weighing in on the Trump marriage, "but Melania can probably use a week's rest from Blabbermouth Donald. Sounds heavenly to me."
Like he knows "heavenly."
Now, for starters, if you've ever seen a family photo of King and wife Tabitha, it wouldn't be a reach to think King's wife might be stuffed and sitting in a rocking chair in an upstairs attic. But you wouldn't say that. What kind of people would?
The Kings look happy enough, but if they aren't, how would we know? And how does King know what's going on in Melania's marriage?
As far as James Gunn is concerned: Who is he? Turns out he's some guy who makes superhero movies. But nonetheless, he seems to think this qualifies him to analyze other people's marriages.
Is it any wonder Donald and Melania kept her pending surgery a secret?
And Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's trip to North Korea? And that the president uses Twitter to communicate with the American people, not the press.
None of the "Never Trumpers" gave the First Lady an Atta' Boy for the gracious job she did that night, mere days before her scheduled surgery. And they should have.
Heck, Michelle Obama asked to be paid for being the First Lady. Ma Belle definitely would have charged overtime for an early morning gig like that.
But instead of complimenting the president for arranging the release of three hostages from the hostile North Korean regime, they presumed to criticize the state of the First Couple's marriage.
Of course, it's not as if there's anything else going on in the world. Or at least nothing that Liberals would acknowledge.
Who wants to hear about Hillary Clinton laundering $84 million of campaign money, by moving sizable contributions through the Democratic National Committee, around and through 38 state committees, and into Hillary's campaign coffers? Not Liberals.
Documented evidence of Clinton's illegal activity was provided, but the Federal Election Commission ignored the complaint until last month when Dan Backer, the attorney of record, filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of D.C. (Committee to Defend the President vs. Federal Election Commission), seeking to force the FEC to fulfill its statutory duty as provided by law.
Liberals don't want to know about that, or that a secret cabal at the FBI planted a mole in Trump's campaign.
Or that Concord Management and Consulting, one of the 13 Russians and three Russian companies indicted by Mueller, called Robert Mueller's bluff in his "Russian Election Interference lawsuit, by actually hiring U.S. counsel, and saying, "We're ready to go to trial. Give us discovery."
They are demanding everything about "U.S. election interference," everything since World War II. The problem is Mueller doesn't have any discovery to share, because he never thought they'd take the lawsuit seriously!
And how about the "Daycare Scandal" in Minnesota. U.S. government money has been funding phony daycare centers for Somalians in that state, who are then sending suitcases full of cash to terrorists in Somalia. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) was upset, that the scandal was discovered, stating it would hurt Somalians. And of course, this all has been taking place in former Sen. Al Franken's stomping grounds.
But CNN isn't interested in that kind of news, not when they can kick around White House communications aide Kelly Sadler for disrespecting John McCain, for days. Or when they can have Stormy Daniels' attorney, Michael Avenatti, on every show, once a day, every day, for the past two months.
It is a cold, harsh world out there for anyone named Trump.
This week Bette Midler called the president "a moron" for re-locating the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, while bemoaning the loss of Palestinian life. I guess she never heard of Hamas.
The unkempt Rob Reiner has called President Trump every name in the book, including sociopath, and has observed, "He was not wanted at the Kennedy Center Honors. He is embarrassed and frightened to go to the White House Correspondents' Dinner and he was not invited to a funeral of a First Lady. This is a president who can't show up at places and he's representing us on the world stage."
Yes, Meathead, he is representing us on the world stage, and he is showing up where it counts.
In North Korea. In China. In negotiations to bring home 14 hostages so far, and not one of them an Army deserter. In lowering taxes. Standing tall, to our enemies. Being firm with our allies. Teaching them all to Respect America Again. And Melania Trump attended the funeral of former First Lady Barbara Bush. Maybe you missed that detail.
But some things never change. "Never Trumpers" have never allowed themselves the luxury of a positive thought. And they never will. Especially when it comes to good news about Donald Trump.
As for Melania Trump, she is reported to be recovering nicely, and her husband is visiting her every day at Walter Reed Army Hospital.
But most wonderful of all, a recent report from the Social Security Administration indicated that one of the Top Ten favorite names for newborn baby girls is, guess what? "Melania!"
Hold the line, America.
