Appropos of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, One Earth website has an article that illustrates how selfless animals are when it comes to protecting their babies.

(Although one could say what has to be done is anything but convenient.)

Baby Pandas are born blind and 3 to 5 ounces in weight. Mama cradles Baby for 3 months almost constantly until he's ready to stand on his own.

Dolphins nurse their calves for up to 18 months, and Junior stays with Mom for up to six years before getting his own apartment.

"After female octopuses lay huge amounts of eggs -- sometimes in the thousands -- they keep the developing babies oxygenated and free of bacteria by fanning them with muscular organs called siphons.

"During this process, octopus moms stop eating, and will not leave the area while guarding their offspring, no matter how long it takes for them to hatch.

"After the eggs hatch, the mother uses her siphon to blow them out into the open ocean. Once the little ones are safely out in the wild, the mother passes away of starvation."

It's called Maternal Instinct. And the ability to have babies? That's called a gift from God.
