It had to tick them off, but when the Melania Trump attended Rosalynn Carter's funeral, she stood out from the crowd.

She was invited. They (the media and other First Ladies) expected she wouldn't be. But Mrs. Carter, a smart and kind lady, arranged that she would. So what could the media do?

They criticized her for wearing a tweed, not all black, coat. That was the best they could come up with, although CNN couldn't resist including her husband's legal problems in its coverage of a First Lady's funeral. It's why they get the high ratings.

Well, maybe with the cost of all The Donald's lawsuits, Melania can't afford a new coat. Did her criics think of that? Or maybe her best black coat was confiscated by the FBI in the Mar-a-Lago raid. That's possible. They certainly rifled through her underwear drawer.

But, despite the slings and arrows she had to tolerate as First Lady, she was dignified, just as she was when she attended, alone, the funeral of Barbara Bush.

She looked beautiful, but the other Firsts looked a little ragged around the gills. Michelle was her customary snarly self, probably because she was walking behind Melania. Hillary looked a little tottery. Laura Bush looked her usual perky self.

It was nice to see Melania, though, and sad to see a very sick Jimmy Carter. God bless him and his dearly departed wife.
